WW Clyde recently completed work on the first phase of the Hopi Arsenic Mitigation Project (HAMP) and joined in a celebration of its opening with the Hopi Tribe last week.
The Hopi People have been living with arsenic contamination in their water supply since the 1960s. Because the Hopi believe that ‘Water is Life,’ and everything the Tribe does is connected culturally and traditionally to water, the installation of a new water system was a massive reason to celebrate.
A wide range of guests, including congressmen and the local public, were invited to participate in the day’s festivities, which included a 10K celebration run, a program at the Hopi Veterans Memorial Center, and a luncheon.
The program consisted of speakers, traditional dances, a plaque unveiling, awarding of certificates of appreciation, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The day proved to be memorable for the community as everyone who played a part in the project, ranging from the Environmental Protection Agency to WW Clyde, celebrated together.
