This job was to be a 632-calendar day, unit-priced, 4-phased IHC Scott Prime Contract located at Denver International Airport. The project was designed to remove, improve, and replace an 11-gate section of aging infrastructure on the Northwest side of Concourse B that has been in place for 25 years. Additionally, the project replaced (upgraded) and relocated multiple Jet Bridges to meet updated building codes and accommodate a wider range of United Airline’s planes.
The project consisted of:
- 4 Phases with each phase consisting of 2-4 gates. 15+ Subcontractors
- Removal of existing of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, Cement-treated Base, and Lime treated subgrade.
- Remove/Adjust/Replace all underground utilities. Sanitary Manholes, Storm Drains, Trench Drain, Fire Hydrants, Sand Oil Interceptors, Grease Trap structures and associated drainpipe.
- Adjustment of all existing Electrical Vaults, Jet Fuel Vaults, Denver Water Vaults,
- Gas Valves and De-Icing Waste (DIW) Structures within the project limits.
- Remove & replacement of jet fuel pits with new configurations.
- Removal, relocating, upgrading, and re-setting of 11 Fixed Walkways
In early April 2020, DEN approached IHC Scott with the idea of accelerating the remaining 3 phases of the project by allowing work to be completed in multiple phases at once due to low flight counts from the COVID pandemic. Through multiple partnering and schedule meetings with DEN, it was agreed IHC Scott would start construction on Phase 2 on June 1st, 2020, Phase 3 on July 7th, 2020, and Phase 4 on August 13th, 2020. With the ability to work on the remaining 3 phases concurrently, IHC was able to offer DEN a 120-day decrease in the overall duration of the project. This agreement was incredibly impactful in helping save the project from termination due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
