This project was originally designed without any pile support. DDF contracted with Spindler Construction of Logan Utah to provide temporary shoring for a deep excavation. Along with our shoring designer, we recognized a potential savings to the project if driven piles were used for both support and uplift resistance, which significantly reduced the depth of excavation, and lightened-up  the structure since the uplift forces would be handled by the driven piles.

The use of the driven H-pile concept was accepted by the owner (City of Logan, Utah), and DDF installed a total (83) H-piles on varying lengths of up to 55 feet, along with the sheet pile shoring for the relatively deep excavation in very poor, wet soil conditions.

DDF was awarded a (2013) “Project of the Year Award” by the Pile Driving Contractors Association for this project.
