Tonopah NV, Box Culvert Extensions preformed double box overpass structureconcrete structure

The project is located along US-6 and SR-376 for a total of 89 Miles. The project was to extend 86 box Culverts and (2) box culvert crossing on US-6 for safety improvements.

WW Clyde utilized pre-cast boxes when possible to assist with schedule acceleration and cost savings. By preforming all parts of the structural concrete (Tied all rebar, set forms and placed all concrete), WW Clyde was able to work with smaller crews in multiple locations and kept all earth-moving equipment small for easier onsite mobilization. Sister company Sunroc provided the concrete on the project by setting up one of their mobile batch plants near the project.

One of the challenges was to keep all needed traffic control moved ahead so all earthwork and concrete work could be performed in several locations at once. In order for us to stay ahead of schedule we needed to complete (4) extensions per week. By being able to work in multiple locations we were able to keep on schedule and finish earlier than planned. Another challenge was at one of the crossings. In order for us to install a double 9×6 box culvert across US-6 we needed to bypass all traffic on this route. We created a single-lane bypass road along US-6 and utilized mobile traffic lights. By using the bypass it allowed us to remove the old box and install the new one without additional traffic control phasing and accelerate the time to install the boxes and open US 6 to traffic.
